The 2023 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 is the ultimate American truck. Before you head to Motor Inn of Spirit Lake, Iowa, check out its top features and specs below.
The Chevy Silverado 1500 gets one major change for the 2023 model year. The Duramax® turbodiesel engine gets 28 more horsepower and 35 lb-ft of torque thanks to new pistons, new fuel injectors, and a re-tuned turbocharger. Additionally, the Silverado 1500 is now offered with protective film and new exterior paint options, and it no longer has a six-speed automatic transmission.
You can choose between four engines for your 2023 Chevrolet Silverado 1500. The standard engine is a turbocharged 2.7-liter four-cylinder rated at 310 horsepower and 420 lb-ft of torque. It’s connected to an eight-speed automatic with rear-wheel drive by default, while a four-wheel-drive system with a low-speed transfer case is offered as an option.
The first available engine upgrade is a 5.3-liter V8 rated at 355 horsepower and 383 lb-ft of torque. It gets a 10-speed automatic transmission and the same available FWD/4WD configuration as the turbo-four. This setup is optional on the Silverado 1500 Work Truck, LT, RST, and Trail Boss, and standard on the Silverado 1500 LTZ and High Country.
The next upgrade is a 6.2-liter V8 rated at 420 horsepower and 460 lb-ft of torque. It gets the same 10-speed automatic and comes exclusively with 4WD. It’s optional on the RST, LT Trail Boss, LTZ, and High Country, and standard in the ZR2. Both V8 engines have Dynamic Fuel Management technology that can deactivate up to six cylinders under light loads, improving mileage.
Finally, there’s the Duramax® turbodiesel 3.0-liter six-cylinder rated at 277 horsepower and 460 lb-ft of torque. It deploys maximum torque at only 1,500 rpm and delivers a sublime blend of power and efficiency, earning up to 29 mpg on the highway. This engine is offered as an option on the Custom Trail Boss, LT, LT Trail Boss, RST, LTZ, and High Country.
The 2023 Chevy Silverado 1500 is offered with three cab sizes: Regular, Double, and Crew. The Regular Cab has two full-size front doors and two smaller rear doors, providing space for up to four passengers. The Double Cab has four full-size doors all around, offering greater rear passenger space, making it well suited for five passengers. And the Crew Cab has even more second-row space than the Double Cab, turning the Silverado 1500 into an ideal family hauler.
The Silverado 1500 is also offered with three bed sizes: Short, Standard, and Long. The short bed is 69.9 inches long and has a volume of 62.9 cubic feet. The standard bed is 79.4 inches long and has a volume of 71.7 cubic feet. Finally, the long bed is just over 98 inches long and has a cargo volume of 89.1 cubic feet. The truck’s bed is made of high-strength roll-formed steel and comes with 12 standard tie-downs. It also has LED cargo area and perimeter lighting.
Even better, the Silverado 1500 is offered with the Multi-Flex Tailgate, which can be configured in six different ways to meet your needs. You can open and close it with the push of a button on the key fob, turn it into an inner or outer load stop, set it up as a full-width bed step, as a workbench, or as a load helper that can hold 375 pounds.
If you’ve got something to tow or haul around, the odds are very good that the 2023 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 can not only get the job done, but make it look overly easy. Even with the four-cylinder engine, the Silverado 1500 has a maximum towing capacity of 8,900-9,500 pounds depending on the configuration. The 5.3-liter V8 can tow between 9,500 and 11,300 pounds while the 6.2-liter V8’s max capacity ranges between 9,100 and 13,300 pounds. Finally, Duramax®-powered Silverado trucks can tow between 9,000 and 13,300 pounds.
Several Silverado 1500 trucks are geared up to tackle off-road trails and none quite as impressively as the Silverado 1500 ZR2 and ZR2 Bison. These two trucks come with standard 33-inch Goodyear® Wrangler Territory® Mud Terrain tires, Multimatic™ DSSV dampers, underbody skid plates, a lift kit, and a uniquely cut front bumper designed for off-road adventures. The ZR2 truck also gets special terrain driving modes along with a driver-selectable front and rear differential, while the ZR2 Bison features front tow hooks and an array of exclusive visual goodies from American Expedition Vehicles.
Inside the 2023 Silverado 1500 is an impressive number of premium features that make day-to-day activities more pleasant. Leather-trimmed heated and ventilated seats, dual-zone automatic climate control, and open-pore wood trim accents are just some of the most notable options. On the Silverado 1500 High Country, exclusive stitching patterns and perforated custom leather elevate the interior’s quality to a level rarely seen in vehicles that can casually tow over 10,000 pounds.
For the 2023 model year, the Chevy Silverado 1500 is available with Super Cruise™ hands-free driving technology, enabling the truck to accelerate, brake, and steer itself on more than 200,000 miles of compatible North American roads. Super Cruise joins an impressive roster of advanced safety technologies like standard automatic emergency braking with pedestrian detection and blind spot monitoring. That’s on top of various towing assistance features including trailer sway control and up to 14 different camera views.
Every new 2023 Silverado 1500 features Apple CarPlay® and Android Auto™ smartphone connectivity along with a 4G LTE Wi-Fi hotspot. Most Silverado trucks also have Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant compatibility, wireless smartphone connectivity, and a 13.4-inch touch-screen display that is easy to use and read. All of these features, combined with the optional premium BOSE® sound system, turn the Silverado 1500 into an excellent and convenient ride in which to spend time, whether during work or play, and on short and long trips alike.
