Importance of Routine Tire Maintenance

When you drive, you likely aren’t thinking about all the critical components that are working together to keep you moving. Some of the most important parts of your vehicle are your tires. They are the only things keeping you in contact with the road. That is why routine tire maintenance is so important.

Here are a few key maintenance steps you should take to ensure your tires are working as they should. If you need help maintaining your tires, schedule an appointment with the service team here at Motor Inn of Carroll.

Check tire pressure

Your tires need to be inflated at a specific pressure to work properly. When they are under- or over-inflated, this can damage them and cause them to wear out sooner. In some cases, this can lead to a tire blowout.

You should check the air pressure in your tires on a regular basis. Many new vehicles are equipped with tire pressure monitoring systems that will warn you when the air pressure is too low.

Rotate your tires

Most tires do not wear out evenly. This is why regular tire rotations are so important. Without tire rotations, you may have one tire that wears out much sooner than the others and will need to be replaced. Since tires must be replaced in pairs, you will have to buy at least two tires even if only one is worn out.

Get an alignment

Over time, as you drive through potholes or run over a curb, your vehicle’s suspension can be pushed out of alignment. A misaligned suspension can accelerate the wear and tear on your tires. If you need an alignment, you might notice your steering wheel is off-center when driving straight or your vehicle pulls to the left or right when you release the steering wheel.
