As summer draws to a close, Iowans welcome fall with a fun assortment of festivals throughout the state. Pack the family into your Toyota and drive to one or more of these fun autumnal happenings.

September Fest

This three-day celebration in Schaumburg provides activities for the whole family. Enjoy free admission for all and partake in the arts & craft show, the Taste of Schaumburg, fireworks and more at the Municipal Center of Schaumburg. Make sure to unwind with a visit to the craft beer and wine tent.

Maximum Ames Music Festival

This four-day music festival features over 50 established and emerging artists. Rock out with acts such as Lizzy Poppyseed, The Fred Love Explosion, and the Iowa Women of Rock Showcase.

Fayette Watermelon Days

This festival in Fayette is perfect for the whole family. Children can keep occupied with free games, lazer tag, face-painting, and more. Parents can browse classic cars on display while soaking up the soundwaves of live music.

Beaverdale Fall Festival

This Des Moines festival has been an annual tradition of the community for more than a century. Carnivals, dog parades, and caramel apples are just some of the fun activities you can experience at this event.

Northside Oktoberfest

Held in Iowa City, this autumnal celebration has something for everyone. Tap into the keg or partake in Sodafest. Entertain yourself at the beaked chicken dance contest or one of the other contests for adults. All proceeds go to the American Heart Association and the Iowa Children’s Museum.

Amana Oktoberfest

Head to Amana to celebrate German culture while enjoying yummy food and drink. Adults can partake in the keg toss while kids enjoy the pumpkin toss. And witness the bratwurst-eating contests and log-sawing competitions.
